Default Custom Brook Lyn 00 12-fret cutaway - UK build

A few days ago I picked up a new custom built guitar from Brook Guitars workshop in Devon, UK:

The specification is:

Body Size/Model – 12 fret ‘Lyn’ with cutaway.
Scale - 24 ¾ “
Back/Sides – 'figured' mahogany and a sound port.
Top Wood Choice - European spruce.
Body Binding/Purfling – snakewood with rosewood purfling.
Neck - one piece mahogany with 44mm wide nut.
Fingerboard - ebony with no position markers other than a 12th fret ‘Martin style 12 fret snowflake’.
Bridge - ebony ‘pyramid’ style.
Rosette – abalone with simple black/white/black edge
Headstock - slotted headstock with ebony faceplate
Tuning Machines - Waverly’s with snakewood buttons.

Here are some build photos and I apologise for the various photo sizes:

Finished guitar in next post

Here are some photos of the finished guitar:

Here's the figured mahogany back although darker off photo:

Headstock with Waverly tuners and snakewood buttons:

The neck is lovely looking mahogany as well:

12th fret inlay, abalone rosette, snakewood bindings and rosewood purfling:

Cutaway showing snakewood bindings:

Heelcap - sorry about the dust:

And here are the Torridge and Custom Lyn side by side:

I am not very good at describing the sound but I was lucky to meet Robbie Jessop (ukrobbiel1) at the workshop and he played it first saying - very responsive, beautiful silky, rich tone all the way up the neck.

I'm very pleased with it in all respects

That looks wonderful. I've only recently made the acquaintance of The guys at Brook, but I'm very glad i did. Simon and Andy are great guys and the custom taw I've recently acquired (in bubinga and European spruce, with a maple neck) is a delight. Your Lyn looks very interesting. Ive liked each of the Lyns I've played and I'd be interested in one myself.

That is a fantastic looking 00. The mahogany looks gorgeous! You must be really impressed with the aesthetics on that one. Oh, and I bet it sounds nice, too.

I have to second that - very elegant and restrained; reminds me of the fabulous Circa I played at TAMCO.

What nut width did you go for? I have played a few Brooks where, for fingerstyle, the nut has been a little bit too narrow for me. I think their default is 44mm or something like that?

I too am looking forward to some clips in due course. Congratulations.

Cheers,
Steve

Same here. The only option, custom order ;-)

Lovely guitar by the way!

Thanks very much Steve

The default nut width for a Lyn is 45mm but I had it to match my Torridge at 44mm. I have always played 43mm in the past until I got my Torridge, anything wider is too much my dodgy left hand/wrist.

By the way, there is a video here:
