If you're into recording history...
Just watched the first of the three part PBS series "American Epic".
Starting with the first era of direct recording to disk it follows the production and capture of early "artists" and is VERY nicely done. I believe T-Bone Burnett and Jack White are the executive producers. Introduction to series: https://youtu.be/jcbATyomETw Here's the PBS description: Travel the country in search of unknown 1920s artists, when the music of ordinary Americans was recorded for the first time, transforming music forever. American Epic is a three-part film narrated by Robert Redford, featuring Jack White, Nas, Taj Mahal and others. Well worth seeking out and watching! Last edited by Rudy4; 05-24-2017 at 09:10 PM. |

Thanks. I enjoyed the book about Ralph Peer"s life story. It's not so much about the technical aspects it's more about the human aspect. Very enlightening.

I noticed that PBS just ran a 2 hour "American Epic Special", detailing several modern performers in the studio cutting brand new recordings on a reproduction of the authentic weight-driven disk cutters which Ralph Peer used in the original recordings.
I have it recorded but haven't watched it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be great! |
