You can cherry pick a nice MIM HSS Strat, which is very versitile, and get a Bugera V22 amp, which sounds killer and also very versitile, and the combo will be just under 1K. Best wishes and jamming!

I have a Gibson LP studio in manhattan midnight blue with a flamed top and it is beautiful. No pickguard.

I cannot believe that ugly pickguard on the one at Sweetwater. Why not black? They ruined it. IMNSHO of course.

New pickguard is about $15 and you can even get a multi-layer custom guard for that and look all stylish. From there it would be pickup surrounds and a poker chip!

It's a lovely guitar. Which is a good thing, because there are about 14 pounds of it to love.

It depends on what kind of music you're playing but a Strat is tough to beat. I also have 2 pedal boards loaded with ex but if I had to I could get by with just a tube screamer.
I have the "Big 4"...and I'd suggest to the o.p. to go with a Classic Vibe Tele and a Blues Junior or a Vox AC15. A used MIA Tele and a Deluxe Reverb can also be found for a good deal every now and then...

All true of course. But why hide that wood at all? Closer to 9 or 10 pounds, posing with bass sibling:

Here it is with its favorite amp and another sibling:

I want to spend about $1k for both the guitar and a small amp for bedroom noodling. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Stressing what the o.p. is stating, "I want to spend about $1k for both the guitar and a small amp for bedroom noodling." Did I read the quote right? Did I just see 2 blue Gibsons (which are very nice, btw) as a suggestion for the o.p.??

Hi franchelB - the first blue one that Bob posted the link to is under $1k so it was a good suggestion.

I didn't like the pickguard and we took took a small detour. I wasn't suggesting that to the OP. I previously suggested an Epi LP. With the right amp he could stay under the 1k target.

Sorry if we got distracted. Just easy to get carried away with blue Les Pauls.

I just looked at the specs of the Joe Bonamassa Epiphone LP. $699, Gibson PAF humbuckers and a hard case. There you go.

Not a problem, really...I think it's more of me getting distracted, especially with Les Pauls!

Easy to do, I know!

OP - check out that JB Epiphone LP. I haven't played one, but the specs look very good for the money.

Really like that Strat with the stacked humbuckers in the bridge and neck!

Another option for the guitar, if not yet mentioned, is Reverend. I have a Reverend Sensei RA and love it. It is comfortable, light, and sounds fantastic.
