Default The face behind the guitar

I was fooling around with the idea of doing video recordings, but I think I'll leave that to Glenn. But, I'll leave this here for a short time. Here's me practicing a finger style piece. I wanted to see if I could get all the way through without a major blunder with the camera rolling and I did. You can hear American Idol in the back ground, lol. I'm not sure how I would edit the sound file (noise removal, fades etc) without messing up the sync. This is the 2nd time in 20 years that I videoed a finger style piece.

Remind me not to do it again

Good one, Barry! Now you've done this exactly TWO more times than I ever have! LOL!
Always good to see the face behind the guitar, but I'll defer to still shots, thank you!

As an aside, I do know it's a challenge to make it through a piece you're recording as all my recordings here and on Soundcloud/Spotify are "best single take" with no splicing of "comps". For better or worse, I enjoy the challenge.....

So, well done maestro! Looks like you're through the flu and on to good things!

LOL, it's coming down soon though. I have a phone mic somewhere around here, but I think I'll stick to my faceless recordings,

I record videos once in a while and put them on FB.

It is very stressful when you are about 2/3rds of a way through a take and it's a good clean one and you know that you have to finish it off without a clam.

I would encourage you to do it more videos with some caveats

If I were your producer
First I would loose the headphones ( once you have the level set they are not needed while recording)
Second I would not video practice, I would only video a piece of music I knew well enough to not be looking at tabs or charts .

Can we can we assume this is shot on a smart phone ? if so I would back it up a bit to get just a little more of you and especially guitar in frame
And I would likely raise the level of the video device more for more of a straight on camera angle, I personally do not care for up angle shots with the exception of periodic close in on a vocal maybe .

I think the video is fine, Barry. It's nice to see what you look like.

Yes, you need a quiet place to record. I am lucky to have that, or at least most of the time, when neighborhood dogs aren't barking and tractors are quiet and no airplanes are flying overhead. Sometimes my wife opens the garage door beneath me when she doesn't realize I'm recording. (I'm supposed to tell her, but I almost always forget to.)

Hey Barry,

I've now done it 256 times and counting (not including the ones I made before starting this guitar business) - still less than Glenn, I bet!

All I can say is that you get used to being in front of the camera after awhile. You did great here, nice playing!

Hi Larry,

I didn't realize you had made so many videos! You are sure good at it!

I think my official videos on my YouTube channel is 265, so really, we are pretty close. That's a lot of videos, for sure!

It is true that a person gets used to making videos and after a while it's not quite so intimidating.

Thanks guys, but that's pretty far from my best playing. I'll put my money where my mouth is the next time I post that tune up

Lose the closet in the background, too.

Great job, Barry. Back in the early '80s I did a lot of audio recording of my music on a TASCAM 3440. Playing and engineering at the same time as making all the way through my parts was always a challenge.
