The callous on my index finger gets a "hard" spot right in the center. It will get perty sore and if I keep filing it down the hard part will "pop" out. This leaves a depressed place in the callous but the soreness is gone and I have no problem in playing until it comes back.

For the past 30 years I've been using 300 grit wet or dry sandpaper every couple of weeks as a touchup. Never had any issues after that.

Best,

Mine actually get caught on the strings. I find myself doin pull-offs where I don't wanna do pull-offs. Gonna go grab one of my wife's bazillion emery boards and try to smooth it out!

I agree. I heard this advice a few weeks ago and every time I trim my nails I use an emory board on the finger tips. It is working like a charm! Give it a try!

Lots of good advice here. I trim with a fine scissor and use Bag Balm as a moisturizer. I tired Guitar Hands and it didn't do it for me. I have also used New Skin and Tecnu (3M), but would advise using these for only the short term of a day or two. When I used these for longer, they created as many problems as they solved (with my skin)
