Curly Sapele OM Cutaway
I'm not much of a poster here, but thought I'd share a few pix of my latest build. I just got the last few items dialed in this afternoon and will be pore filling and shooting lacquer over the next few weeks. The guitar is my version of an OM with cutaway, 25.4" scale. I usually build two at a time, but as my customer was being called back to Japan early this year, I built just the one to make sure I got it done before he left. I'll add some more pix later when I have her strung up.
Heel was designed to match the backstrap Thanks for looking! Ken

Nicely done! The bound blackstrap I find particularly appealing...

So much for sapele being an "inferior" wood (not that I think it's regarded as such here, but as it's usually associated with lower-end guitars I think it gets that kind of a reputation).
Seriously though, I'm glad to see sapele getting the respect it deserves. If it's good enough for a small custom shop builder then it's more than proven its suitability as a tonewood.

Thanks everyone! The top is indeed red spruce, old growth, light and stiff. This set of sapele has loads of curl and will really pop under finish. Our goal was to build a nice sounding, good looking guitar that would be a bit on the less sensitive side with respect to humidity without over building.
The same sapele was used for the purfling and rosette. We will be installing a Lyric pickup in her. I'm pretty open to tonewoods and try to bring out the best of whatever my customer wants. I even did a build a few years ago for a gentleman that wanted a guitar of all Michigan woods. Ken
