Default Got a M1 passive today

This is the guitar (Alvarez AF60) that I put two JJB pickups in. String balance was not good. Not the pickups fault. Removed and replaced twice. Tried a Schatten Dualie inside mount. Ended up returning that. Now I have permanently installed the M1 passive sound hole pickup.

I tried it through my K&K XLR preamp into the guitar channel of my Fishman Loudbox Mini. Sound was OK. Then tried it through a Behringer ADI21 into the guitar channel. Sound was OK. Then through the ADI21 into the mic channel of the Loudbox. After tweaking around here and there, I've got it it sounding pretty good through that channel. I haven't tried it with the K&K preamp into the mic channel yet. That will be tomorrow.

I wasn't crazy about a sound hole pickup but for this guitar. It does sound somewhat electric but it's not a bad sound. Not my number 1 guitar so it will do for playing amplified at home.

I have a Baggs M1 active that I use direct to an electric guitar amp. Can you try yours through an electric amp, and/or without the preamp? I'd be interested to know what you think of the sound.

Sorry, I don't have access to a electric guitar amp. Maybe others that do will chime in and let you know.

A busker friend of mine was using a M1 passive on his Guild guitar. I was quite impressed with the sound. He was using his with a L R Baggs Para DI.

Yes you definitly need a preamp of some sort.

I may also invest in one. The sound was very natural I thought. Great clarity.

I just did a quick Google search. Apparently the DCR of the M1 passive is only 1.6K ohms, so, at least in theory, the need for a preamp/buffer is moot. At that resistance, a electric guitar stomp box should work with it. Maybe a reverb or EQ.

I have two Baggs pups- the M80 and the M1A. They both sound great, but they needed tweaking. Each string has adjustable poles. Have at it!

what sort of differences do you hear between the M1A and the M80?

I'm liking it more and more all the time. I'm still tweaking the pole heights but it's getting better

And yes, a preamp is a must. I have a K&K Pure XLR and a Behringer ADI21. For the price the Behringer does very well if your on a budget or just playing at home amplified. which is what I do most of the time. Do have a big Christmas concert coming up though.
