Default Anyone using lights on the Martin Dreadnought Jr?

I have the all sapale Martin Custom D Jr. 2A that Guitar Center sells and when I had it set up, I kept it at mediums. However I am thinking of switching it over to lights for more ease of play. Anyone using lights on there Dreadnought Juniors, and did it affect the tone and sound at all?

I’ve been using Di’Adarrio NB Lights 12-53 and they sound amazing on the D Jr.

The silver color matches well also

I used EXP17s and they sounded really pretty good. However, I found them a bit floppy for the 24" scale. I'm not really a mediums fan generally and I'm hoping the Elixir Med-Lights 80/20 Polywebs or the LJ Retros on deck will be a good compromise both in terms of playability and tone.

For what it is worth, I personally did not care for the D'addario NBs but liked the Ernie Ball ABs quite a bit on the D Jr 2.

It's what you like ultimately, and strings are a fun and cheap way to find out what you like.

Thank you for the insight. Much appreciated. I use lights on my Washburn 314KK parlor and they work great for that, but I didn't know about the dreadnought junior.

I have the same guitar and have been considering the exact same thing lately. Currently using Martin 13's and although they sound great - I just can't get comfortable with them and want to switch to 12's. If you make the switch please let us (me) know how it goes. ;-)

That's very good to know. Thanks for the info.

I bought a D Jr a few days ago, and I'm delighted with it, but I've wondered if my slightly arthritic fingers would be happier with something a tad lighter than the 13s it came with. I'll give some 12s a try.

This is an easy test: Mediums tuned down one-half step across the board to Eb will yield the same overall tension as light gauge tuned E-e. If it works, then you know.

Used EXP16s on mine for somentime. Played great. Do think it's better with EXP17s though.
