F standard tuning
I was noodling on my Ami when I struck with this idea. Would it be possible to tune it safely 2 half-steps higher to standard F# using extra light (10-47) gauge strings? It can handle mediums with no problems so I'm guessing going 3 gauges down would be enough to go 2 half-steps up?
The higher pitch would certainly play to this guitar's advantages since it doesn't give out much bass response but has really wonderful trebles. Looking forward to your answers!

Wouldn't it be easier to just leave the strings the way they are now and put a capo on the guitar at the 2nd fret?

I'm confused Bobby, your thread say's "F standard tuning "
but you want to take it up 2 tones - somtin's not right forget all that complicated stuff and get heavier bass strings to compensate

F standard tuning
Little mistake, title should be F# tuning. I do know using a capo is easier, I was just wondering if it could be done without snapping strings.
Thanks for the link Howard.

Yeah, the original title was what I responded to in a flash. I had a chance to buy an original from the early 1960s. Here's the bare-bones model for sale in Europe: http://www.gbase.com/gear/guild-geor...-1971-sunburst These things were tuned A-D-G-C-E-A, from low to high, or up a forth, hence 'In-F' HE |
