Nice earring and mini YoYo Ma affects.
I always enjoy his audio... not so keen on the video side. |

I'm a HUGE Andrew York fan and I love his new cd, "Yamour". Two discs, not a weak track on either.
Here's another video of Andrew playing the 1888 Torres, my favorite song on Yamour, "Squares Suspended". A simple, beautiful piece. Although it sounds great on the Torres, I prefer it on his beloved David Daily. Beautiful tone. Props to Andrew York, Antonio Torres (RIP), and GSI, especially whoever did the sound engineering on that recording. Even on my lap top speakers, it sounds amazing.

Gorgeous! Two questions: how was the audio recorded / amplified, and is this piece available in sheet music?

I too have been astonished by how great that old guitar sounds.
I'm a massive AY fan - his music is responsible for me crossing over to nylon strings, where I now spend 90% of my playing time; unbelievably frustrating but very rewarding when it (rarely) comes together. Cheers, Steve |

My question is, how does this 125 year old classical guitar (all wood and hide glue in those days) sound this good when I've read and been told any number of times that classical guitars only last about 30 years?

I'm guessing the 1888 Torres has had some restoration work done along the way. Keep in mind, world-class violins from 18th and 19th centuries are still going strong.

That makes total sense due to the structural differences between violins and guitars - comparing apples to oranges. I know there's been a lot of ongoing debate over the years regarding the lifespan differences of spruce tops and cedar tops as well. Anyway, sorry about derailing the initial thread topic. Andrew York sure brings out the rich beauty of the Torres! |

I should apologize to the OP as well. I got off on a tangent.
