Hi Chuck!
Sorry I missed you, but as I thought, I couldn't take the "jam" they ran in the display room. I left after enduring around 40 rounds of "Whiskey before Breakfast". Turned out I got another blessing from attending...a 24 hour flu bug. Come on over some time! I've had a little set back with this instrument in that I tried a new filler. The filler ended up grey in the pores and I had to strip the finish and redo. I think I have it back on schedule now... |

First set of coats on the mini...
I'll let it dry for a few days, then level it out with 600 grit wet and spray the next set of build coats. |

Did you have any trouble stripping the filler out that you didn't like? First coat looks great, Hans!

Chaz, I tried a new "ebony" filler that worked well, but turned out a horrid grey instead of black. Seems like it's a good filler, but I have to figure out how to make it really black.
I did have some trouble getting the filler out...after sanding it down with 220, and 400 grit, I had to scrub it with acetone twice and then I used my old standard McFaddens' filler. After I shot a coat of sealer on, I still could see grey, so I sanded that off with 220 and dyed the whole back and sides black. That took care of it. Of course I had to scrape the binding 3 times and that was unfortunate! All in all, a lot of work, but worked out well in the end. |

Basically together! Spent a really bad day trying to get the fret job right. Ended up fretting it 3 times! That was a charm. Very hard to do for exceedingly low action, but got it down to 3/64" treble and 1/16" bass.
Strings are a whopping .058" .048" .038" .028" .018" .015" Pretty easy to remember. Plays like a dream, and the very short scale is already making me able to play some. Don't want to push that though... More photos later. Sorry for the fuzziness of this one. |

Thanks folks!
Here are the "real" photos. CBG, I will have the sound clips later this week. I think my friend Bob is coming over midweek. This is no toy guitar is all I can say! I'd put it up to my wife's BRW D-35 any day. It's loud, strong, sweet and FAT! Playing it is like playing an electric guitar with heavy strings. It's so fast and easy to play. With the short scale, you can reach anything. I'll certainly be building more of these. A white oak and a 12 string are in the plan for this year... Mini and big Jumbo, 22.875" & 24.625" scales Sorry for all the dust on the last two photos, the instrument has a lot of static build-up after buffing. K13, the surround system is hand made by me as is the cabinet. Speaker drivers are Scan-Speak, some of the finest Danish drivers made in ported cherry veneered MDF cabinets with the MTM configuration. |
