Hey Haans, that's a nice big guitar for a mini, but it looks just about right. Also a good way to get a short scale on a big guitar.

You got it John. Here's a shot of the parlor, mini-jumbo, and Big Boy for size comparison. Both the parlor and Big Boy have a 24.625" scale. Mini doesn't have the dovetail cut yet, so it's about 11/16" long...

OK, so I routed all the purfling and binding yesterday, and today I put it all in. Here's the sequence. First, I clean up the routing with a safe edge file...
Back bwb stripes added... Some hand trimming and cleanup on top for purfling... Split herringbone, bw stripe and teflon added. It's a real pain to keep 5 loose pieces straight while glueing it in and taping... Finally, the safe edge file is run around the binding slot again and Ivoroid/B/ivoroid binding glued in and taped. Later I will pull the teflon strip and glue in the abalone strips. That's it for today! |

Yep, that is looking mighty fine there Haans!
Wood choice, binding/purf, fretboard inlays, body and headstock shape, all adds up to one very pleasing package. You've got it all! Joe |

Thanks guys!
I'm really hoping this one will solve my playing problems. My next step if this guitar doesn't work out is a 22" scale on the same size box with probably a 13 fret neck to get the bridge in the same position. Probably would go with white oak on that one... |

Brazillian pore filled and top dyed with a bit of antique amber...all I have left is to scrape the bindings before finish.

That wood is on its way to becoming a beauty of a guitar Hanns .. I'll bet it'll play real easy with that 22.785 scale length...

I recently had a very enjoyable visit to Haans' shop. Great things come out of small places! These are unique instruments.

Very nice, Haans! I'd love to play this one. I really like the short-scale guitars. Which tuning gears did you settle on? Is it tricky to get the guitar 'exactly' in tune due to the shorter scale?

Thanks guys!
Terry, it was fun having you over, let's do it again. In case some of you didn't know, Terry Kennedy makes some lovely looking and sounding instruments! JD, I've never made a short scale like this one. Furthest I've gone short is 24.625", so this is new territory for me. I hope it helps (notice the thumb brace in the photo). The tuners are to be Grover Stay-tites. We'll have to see how it tunes. Be about 5-6 weeks depending on how long I feel like waiting for the finish to dry. |

Hey Hans,
Your mini jumbo is looking really nice; hope it works for you. Seeing the picture of your parlor is reminding me that we didn't connect at Harvest Jam. I couldn't make it until around 3:00 on Saturday and by the time I got to the vendor room you were gone. Sorry to have missed you.
