Just awesome. Isbin's so great at relating teaching material, she's incredibly clear and articulate, and I want to be like her when I grow up

I have never heard about the concept about playing in between notes (excuse my English) ... which really make sense ...
thanks for posting

Very interesting also is that she is saying that those oldies were,in their time , very innovative and were improvising ...something that a lot of people don't know

I have watched this a couple of times now and find that she is spot in with the concept of improvisation overlaid on a specific piece of music. I think it is good to put a different spin on certain pieces, as long as it enhances it for the better.

I have heard Malaguena played in different ways, the link below is currently my favourite:

.... if you want to mention what's going on with the strings, perhaps it would deserve a separate discussion elsewhere.

+10 on that!!! That's why Sharon Isbin stands out as one of the best classical guitarists in the world...all the nuances she brings to every piece she plays. My favorite classical guitarist for sure, and one reason I enjoy listening (and attempting to play) classical music. I've even been tempted to try using the fake nails, as my nails chip so easily.

Glen

try covering the top third with nail glue
or if they are really thin use some acyrlic powder
they will peel off after a week without any real damge to nail

dont get your nails 'done'
they will be as thin as paper when they come off

worked for me for 20 years

Sharon Isbin has always been such a great player
Journey to the Amazon is a favourite CD of hers...
really like it when she explores world music with that pristine technique...
and her work wit Carlos Barborosa Lima

Thanks Jeff. When I'm visiting the drugstore down the block, I'll know what to look for now, but going to a nail salon is not even on my bucket list!

You'll get over it!

Sometimes I go buy nail polish.............................

It's good for small touch ups on electric guitars.

That's a good video.

I wish I could grow nails again but I can't thanks to a shty little disease known as psoriasis but oh well I have to live with it. I used to depend on them until it took over. Wah wah boo hoo poor me...

I love the improvisation on the pieces and how Isbin explains that it is her own voice and she plays everything with such conviction. Her right hand is amazingly smooth even while picking out so many notes.
