Default Questionable Martin on eBay now

https://www.ebay.com/itm/martin-guit...0AAOSwdRpao2XE

This is listed as a refurbished factory second. Pattern of bridge pegs is in an arc like a Guild, peghead is too long, no pic of internal stamp, Martin does not sell seconds anyway. Not sure what it is but I know what it ain’t.......

Unfortunately, might be good enough to fool someone. Good observations. Also, the open back tuners are not ones you'd ever see on a modern Martin (rounded points vs. the typical Waverly style).

Wouldn't touch that with any type or length pole.

So does Martin remove the headstock binding and logo on all of their D-41 factory seconds, or do you suppose that is something the seller did as part of the refurbishing??

Not a Martin. Bridge pin configuration wrong.

As already noted by the OP, Martin does not sell seconds. This could be made from Martin parts purchased through the Guitarmaker's Connection, but it does not appear to be a real Martin.

I have seen and played a Martin second. It was purchased at the factory. Yes the logo was scraped of and all other martin identification were removed. Once the logos and sn are removed it is no longer or never was a Martin. After playing it I could see why It was no longer a Martin. It was a piece of crap.

Maybe the former owner of that instrument will see this and confirm it.

I'm going to say this once more and then be on my way. Martin does not sell seconds of Nazareth-built guitars and they never have. They have sold seconds of their Sigma and Shenandoah lines when they were making those, as well as Vegas when they were importing those. Never for Nazareth-built Martins.

It's always possible that such a guitar made its way clandestinely out of the factory, but it was never with Martin's blessing. Production guitars that do not meet Martin's standard are either fixed if possible or destroyed. Anyone who says otherwise is mistaken.

Default Report Fraud

I frequently report fraudulent guitar listings to ebay - if you are sure this guitar is not a martin - report it.

There is a bogus Olson guitar listing that reappears regularly at a crazy low starting bid - I tag it and they take it down - it gets relisted but we should police the listings and protect each other when we can.

Default Report it

All you have to do is 'report item' as a replica to ebay. They take it down.
Stuff like this comes up all the time.

No logo, no brand on the brace.

Employee guitar or kit. Never seen koa in a kit, so probably employee instrument.

I very much doubt that it’s a Martin employee guitar , it’ll probably be a (Possibly Chinese) unbranded guitar, it’s not really even trying to look much like a Martin.
Why would you put a bridge like that on it if you were trying to make a knock-off replica ? That’s an easy bit to get looking right.

Good point, the bridge pin hole pattern is definitely weird. Kit or empl. guitar would have the right hole pattern.
