I generally don't let go of a guitar after I've bonded with it, but there have been a few.
1967 Gretsch Tennessean 1971 Fender Telecaster 1994 Gibson Les Paul Studio (only one I've ever seen like it, P-90's and a sickening pea soup green burst)

I've never let an acoustic go that I really dug.
I did sell an ES-335 that I like the idea of, but it was a dog. Could never get a decent enough tone. The only instrument I sold that I regret was a beat up '72 Fender P-bass that had unbelievable tone and sustain. It had scratches, nicks and body damage all over (I think it was owned by a punk bassist) but the sound put almost every other bass I've played to shame.

No time for pics, but here are my top three.
An early 70's Ovation. Yep,an Ovation. Deep bowl and it actually sounded like a great acoustic guitar. A Larrivee OM-50,a rare one that mistakenly had an 1 11/16" neck. I've thought of that guitar hundreds of times. Last but certainly not least was a Martin HD-28. I can't even bring myself to say any more about that one.

Welp...
A 1970 Martin D-35 that was killer great 2006 Martin HD-7 Roger McGuinn seven string. The good news is I’m buying it back from the owner on Thursday! That’s it for me. No other regrets. |

I don't have pictures and I haven't gotten rid of any acoustics I regret. Electrics are another story. I had a 72 SG Standard, with a Bigsby and Gibson stamped in the pick up covers, that was my first good electric. A 1976 re-issue Gibson Explorer that I still would love to get back, but no idea where i might be. And a 1980 gold top Les Paul Deluxe that had a maple neck. I really miss those three, but I actually wish I had hung on to a bunch more, several Hamers, a BC Rich Mockingbird, some Strats and a Tele. I did just build myself a Sherwood Green Tele with a rosewood FB and Eastgrove pickups that is a killer guitar, probably the best electric I've ever owned. I'm not lacking anything really.

My 1979 ES335 however it went to a person that really does it justice.
My Ovation Deacon that went to a member of Ricky Martins Band And oddly the Eko Ranger I bought while in the Army in Germany and donated to a music program.

Honestly, nothing. Years ago, I would experience a bit of sellers remorse as I was boxing a guitar to send out, as it was no longer going to be in "the collection", but as I've grown a bit older, I really don't want a collection of guitars I don't play and love.
Right now, I have much smaller lineup of instruments that I love almost equally for what each of them do and they all get some play time. I like it that way much better than having a case queen that I don't play, only because I had to have one of those guitars.
