Speaking of details, I just noticed I wrote 2017 on that rosette coaster. This is why "I" don't get highly involved with the build process. I'm rather dyslexic.

Clearly y'all need to make a brand new top and rosette now.

Oh well...
Hey Mary. I used to have a short term memory but I forget where I put it! Where do the years go so fast?
Hope you all are well and having a splendid 2018 so far. Make the joyful noises... Paul

As for memory ... I considered snapping the rubber band on the wrist trick, but after one time I wasn't impressed with the sting. It didn't help with remembering whatever I had already forgotten. All I can remember is that stupid rubber band welt stings!

Rodger, you're going to have a beautiful looking - and sounding - guitar! Visiting the McKnight family was a high point for me and my friend at Woodstock a few years ago!

More pics are pouring in!!!
Removing the excess part of the back frame... The router table is busy... This angle always reminds me (Mary) to duck when sawdust comes flying toward me... Blurry close up - the close up before binding is placed...

The sound test is done often throughout the build process...
The top bracing is complete. It's time to trace and glue the top to complete the box... Buttress braces for the rods... Rods are in place! This might need to be inlaid in the back area. ... or not. (Mary - sometimes you crack me up. Sometimes - not)

I hope that's not a Sharpie !!!!
Signatures on inside tops won't be seen unless you search Taken before sealing the inside area of the back... Some people don't do this, but Tim feels it will retard the moisture exchange... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pt...Y=w904-h678-no The top is now attached to the main section of the box...

Sanding the top reminds us both to put our ear plugs in. This is quite a large sound. Can you hear it?
Commercial break - For several years I have asked Tim to let me use that palm tree board for a rosette. This is a spec guitar we might put on display in the April Artisan show (Harrisburg, PA) (Mary - I'll bill you later for this "ad" in my thread) It's time to route the top... McKnight Guitar ad (Another ad - another bill, Mary) The sound during this process is so shrill... This is an action shot of sawdust flying all over the area... I wonder if everyone has been taught the reason we use quarter sawn wood?

The end wedge will be in today...
Tim made this jig to simplify the job... Route out the desired width first... Sometimes sawdust has a later purpose... time to get the wedge and purfling ready to glue in... Load 'er up with glue... Putting the wedge in place... Insert the trim pieces and finish gliding the wedge in place... Apply physical pressure here is enough... It's easier to wipe away the excess glue than to wonder if enough was added in the first place. To ensure the wedge is secure Tim places clamps on the guitar box to secure the position...

Good morning Bill,
Mary takes a crazy number of pictures throughout our builds and then emails them to our clients. She does an outstanding job IMO. Some folks will choose to share their pics and some don't because all of the pictures belong to the client once they leave our PC. I'm glad Rodger allows all of us the pleasure of vicariously living the build with him. Sorry you have to endure the old curmudgeon with the white hair Its binding day today, yuk! One of my least favorite tasks in the build. This is one of the steps that separates the men from the boys because there is absolutely no room for error or any successful ways of hiding one's mistakes |
