Reason Essentials 8 for pc
I am doing some research into DAW with and considering getting this DAW in a bundle of stuff - anyone use this DAW to record solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar?
I would like to be able to edit similar to Doug Young does in Logic in this video (split/trim/crossfade) but I have trawled through lots of Reason tutorial videos etc. but have not found anything that clarifies this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ80NJtU6A0 Possible alternatives are Reaper and Cubase Elements. Hope you can help

Phil
I use Presonus Studio One, which can do a similar thing to what Doug demonstrates, but not as quickly (that seems to be a Logic trick). It took some time to learn the basics of Studio One (and I still haven't got anywhere near mastering it), but I'm very happy with the features and work flow for solo acoustic guitar and a couple of microphones. The advantage of using Reaper would be cost and a very large and active user base and a forum where you can post requests when you run in to a wall, which tends to happen often in the beginning, in my experience. Having said that, I don't think there are enough differences between the major DAWs to be a concern, because all of them are going to demand a learning curve. Kym |

In a review of Reason 8 from the Sound on Sound magazine the author stated that there were no proper audio cross-fades in Reason:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec1...s/reason-8.htm You might want to clarify that point because it is important if you're moving audio clips around and expect it to work without clicks being generated.

Cubase Elements does not have Lanes so will not be able to do this either...advanced comping features are only available in the "pro" (aka non-bundled) versions of Cubase.
Phil (that would be Canuck Phil to you)

Thanks very much for the feedback all.
It looks like Reason and Cubase are out so I have downloaded a trial version of Reaper for evaluation so fingers crossed will see how I get on with that. Thanks for the offer but no thanks!!

Sonar X has an almost identical feature called Speed Comping. Here's the link to a video highlighting this feature. https://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONA...ty/Get-Started Hope this is helpful. Trevor |
