What hardshell case for My Martin HD-28??
I am looking for a well constructed case for my Martin HD-28. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it, but want the options. What is the best for the money that will protect my guitar. Thanks!

Well since you don't have the case that comes with the guitar, I would get myself a Martin case. If that's not what you want there are numerous cases and case companies making different cases. Do you want ultra lightweight? Heavy-duty protection? There are dred. cases on sale at GC currently for half-a-c-note. If you just want protection and climate control, that would work fine.

My HD fits nicely in this Silver Creek archtop case. It has an arch top, six latches, a double neck support, and is very similar to the Martin 545 Geib style case. It is built lighter, and is probably not as strong as the Martin case, but it is still a sturdy case. Very reasonably priced too.

I compared them side by side and they are almost identical except the Silver Creek has bigger and smoother latches that I like better than the TKL. I actually think that the fit and finish of the Silver Creek case was better. The TKL case was a bit heavier. However, I could sit on the arched top of the Silver Creek case and it wouldn't budge. So in practical terms, and for normal use, its as strong as any guitar case needs to be and because it's lighter, it feels a little better balanced and is easier to haul around from place to place. Both cases were exactly the same dimensions inside and provided a snug perfect fit for both my HD-28 and Guild. If you like the Martin TKL cases and don't want to spend the money, you will be very pleased with the Silver Creek case. Of course you can always go to e-bay and try to find a used original Martin Geib style TKL case, complete with the metal Martin label on the outside. I bought one this way to replace the plastic case on another HD-28 I had (before I found out about the Silver Creek cases). But you don't see too many of these for sale and when you do its impossible to get a decent one for anywhere close to the price of a new Silver Creek case.

I went with a Guardian Fiberglass Case. Got it for $99 bucks at Amazon. Most I saw elsewhere were around $169 or higher. For that price I can't go wrong.
