Default Open Geared Tuners ..

Just wondering ...on my 1958 Levin 335Archtop
Apart from a drop of oil ( maybe ? ) on the gears of these open geared tuners,do any of you do anything else to make these mechanisms operate more freely ?
I'm thinking about giving the gears a light rub with a brass wire brush.
...and... what sort of lube,if any, is recommended ?
Thanks and regards from OZ ... Charlie.

Why would you use a wire brush on the gears??

Certain light oils can be fine.

I agree, try some Quick Release oil. You'll never worry over the gears again. You have to buy it online. One drop on each gear will do just fine, a little goes a long way to keep out all the dirt and dust for probably a year.

" Why would you use a wire brush on the gears?? " .. I'm thinking that a BRASS wire brush, like the ones used for suede cleaning, might remove/smooth over, any slight burrs on the gears ..

The Quick release Oil sounds like a good product and I'll get some for the workshop..
Postage to Australia is a real crusher however.Oil is $7.99 ..postage is around $35.00 :-(
I found a post written by the inventor of the oil and have written to him.
Thanks for your input folks ..

A drop of ANY oil every ten years or so is more than most tuners ever see in their lifetimes, and I'm sure they would be grateful for whatever lube come their way . . .
