Default So I built this TRS guitar cable and... UPDATE:

The signal is weak. Anyone know why?

It's the cable from the K&K Trinity to the pre blender. I felt like the 6ft one that came with it was too short, so I built this 12 ft one.

I used good quality gold Neutrik ends (90 degree on one end) and good cable.

Tests out fine with continuity test, no crosstalk either. Stumped.

Shower me in knowledge group.

Update: Emailed with Jack (great guy) @ K&K and he says up to a 15ft cable should work fine. Hmmmmmm....

Question One: Does the 6' one work fine.... No Volume Loss???

Question Two: If the 6' one works, why didn't you order a cheap 12' one off of Amazon?

Question Three: Why is the sky Blue?

Explanation for responding to this post: Its Monday and I had the day off but I did wait until after 5 pm to start drinking!

Question Three: Why is the sky Blue? A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.

I've been communicating with some experts and it may be Mogami recommended the wrong cable to me. Who ya gonna trust?

Don't sweat the small stuff. Purchase a longer TRS cable and all will be right.

I have 2 or 3 10 - 15 foot ones I'll sell you cheap. They are the ones that used to come with a Taylor guitar when the ES system was new. They range from never been used to lightly used.

Believe me, building it was a last resort. I could not find one with a right angle on one end that wasn't custom made and wasn't $100.

Do you have link to the cable you used? If everything ohms out OK on the cable, like yourself I have a difficult time understanding why it wouldn't work.

The impedance of the pre blender appears to be 1 megohm, which implies a high impedance of the pickup, so capacitive loading of the cable could be a factor that's causing signal loss.

Here's the cable Mogami recommended that I used...

Your cable should be fine - how did you solder the connectors?

Does the signal change when you wiggle the cable at either end?

By the way if this cable doesn't work out I found there are 10' and 15' TRS to TRS, one end right angle cables on the sweetwater website, both less than 30 bucks.

I'm pretty sure at this point, it's something with the cable choice itself.

Is the loss of signal an overall loss or more in the upper frequencies? Cable capacitance may tend to affect the top frequencies and it may not sound as bright as with a proper cable. Hopefully the different cables fix the issue.

It seems to be an overall loss of volume. We'll get these other cables and do more testing.

Thanks to all for the advice!

GW.

Default Update:

Okay, in case anyone was wondering...

I got a couple 15' TRS cables from Vancebo (Thanx Bro!) and did some more testing today.

The 6' cable still sounds best.

The 15' cables I got from Vancebo are much better than the one I made. Very usable. A very slight loss of treble is all.
I attribute that to the extra length.

The cable I made is still the worst of the lot. I contend it is because the cable itself is not suited for this application, and the extra length.

Bottom line is, I have 3 cables that will do a good job. I hope to research some more and re-make mine with something better.
