Wow! More proof that it's the player...not the guitar.

That's great! And she probably doesn't even know how to "properly " tune a guitar... just turns those buttons until it sounds the way she wants.
A young fellow from the Congo played in our P/W band for a bit. He had a similar style, only held/fingered it conventionally. I would try to teach him songs, and he didn't know what a C chord was (or any other for that matter), but if he heard it he could play it. |

Playing was OK, sounded kind of thin and crappy. Not something I would want to hear over and over.

Agreed, and it "proves" nothing about guitars one way or the other, more the ingenuity of folks with little to no means, that I respect.

This video has been passed around for years...and it's a "he", not "she". Just FYI. Quote:

I enjoyed it once, years ago. Indeed, it proves nothing at all in regards to the stated topic...

Yep. That ^^. When we visited the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix (Scottsdale), there were displays showing "repurposed" items used as musical instruments. We need music in our lives - however we can.

I liked the way that guitar sounded - probably because the player was so good.
Didn't sound thin to me at all and certainly didn't sound "crappy". I loved the bass part he (or she?) kept up with all of the African rhythm and melody going on. I think it was totally the player and not the guitar...and that was my point. Interesting responses tho. Kind of reminded me of the way someone who just doesn't like country blues or old time street corner gospel might respond to Skip James or Blind Willie Johnson:

Agreed, but everybody wants to think quality only matters in cars.

Like I said...interesting responses.
A gifted musician will find a way to make inspired music on a POS guitar.
