and here I thought it was just to keep things simple when it comes to composing a chart, that's how I use and apply modal interchanges When analyzing a chord progression of a jazz chart it is not too difficult to point out modal interchanges thru out a piece.
It also can make it much easier to see the bigger picture and improvise musically over those changes. A useful harmonic analysis tool.
