I’ve tried pretty close to every pick there is. I always use standard shape but use the rounded edge to contact the strings.

Celluloid extra heavies are ok. I use them because I have accumulated hundreds.

But for years now the pick I always come back to for feel, control and sound is Clayton Ultex 1.2mm.

Agree.

I guess I bevel mine a bit too. My abrasion process begins immediately when I apply 11-49 Power Slinkys or 11-52 Custom Light acoustic strings, and it takes two or three 40-minute sets onstage to complete.

Discard, replace and repeat.

They tend to last a lot longer (maybe a month) now that my beveling sessions are only three songs long at open mic events.

Thicker picks (like >1mm) of any material make a dull thudding sound on my guitars but work well on a bass guitar.

Give me a good old cheap Fender thin pick. If I lose it or it breaks, no big deal. I wouldn't know what to do with a $30 boutique pick....

I like Fender medium celuloids. I like the sound I get and that they stick well to my fingers.

I try other picks but I don't get that sound. I like the direct sound of celluloid. Others sound dull and thuddy.

I have a ton of celluloid picks around, but only use Primetones, Wegens, or Blue Chips these days. I use all heavy gauge, 1.3-1.5mm, and all triangles. I have come to really like the small triangle 1.3mm Primetone picks w/grip.

I ordered the small triangles on accident a while back, but once I tried them I liked them so much I decided to order more. They work well for me.

I have a bag of Alice branded celluloid 1.5mm picks shaped like a very slightly smaller 346 that were a cheap eBay purchase from China . For mandolin I like them fine even compared to fancier picks, and leave one tucked under the strings of the mandolin that hangs in my living room. For guitar I really like a bevel, and I've not found a generic pick I like as much as a Wegen TF100.

My thumbpicks are Delrin. My fingerpicks are brass. The whole pick craze has gotten — uh — out of hand.

Meanwhile, I still have my old Canon AE1 35mm SLR, but I don't use it anymore.

But if I ever go deaf or can't work a guitar anymore, I'll sell my music gear, set up a darkroom, and switch hobbies to medium-format black and white no-flash photography: 100% non-digital celluloid.

It's a plan.

I use Celluloid exclusively - 1.25 for Carter style and 1.5 for single note melodies - all large triangle - love 'em.

No. Celluloid sounds terrible imo. I use tortex purples, they sound great, and are very flexible in tone depending on where and how you hold them. I get can clicky and bright, or super dark and mellow depending on how and where I hold the those picks. I don't understand why a person would purchase a $40 pick, it's just more guitar business craziness. There are so many picks that sound great, and are $5 for a pack of 10 or 20. It's because our Youtube influencer handlers tell us to, I suppose. I don't think BC or others would have been successful had they launched in pre-social media times. Same for boutique pedals.

I always use celluloid picks, and alternate through the different thicknesses. I have literally hundreds of picks of all materials, but find myself going back to celluloid. I even prefer it to tortoise shell. Maybe because that's what I started out with in my youth.

I just ordered a 12 pack of celluloid D'Andrea 1.5 large triangles. They're great, especially on my slope shoulder.

Default Taylor Celluloid

I have lots of different picks for different tones on different guitars. I have maybe a half dozen old Taylor .75 celluloid picks that I guard like my Charmed Life and Blue Chip picks. Love em.

I have two Blue Chip picks, but my preference on my instruments is D'addario/Planet Waves extra heavy. I've bought them 100 at a time.
