Default Anyone playing their Nylon-string guitar in a band? What pickup are you using?

I'm looking at starting to play a couple tunes with a nylon string guitar in our band.

First, I need to get a decent guitar.

Second, anyone have recommendations for a pickup?

thx

Playing in a band, I would go for a guitar that is more "electric" and less "acoustic" if that makes sense.

Takamine 132SC is a good choice, it has a really good pickup/preamp system, it sounds good (acoustically) but shines plugged in

Schertler CP is also very cool, Great pickup/preamp system on board and is beautiful to look at, and it is good acoustically (not great)

I'm about to give my new GK Studio Negra a try with my band. It has a Fishman PreSys Blend in it. I'll report back after rehearsal on Thursday! I expect to have to lean closer to the UST and away from the mic in the blending.

My GK Studio Negra with the Fishman PreSys Blend worked beautifully last night at rehearsal in a semi acoustic band setting: electric guitar, clarinet, accordion and two percussionists. I was able to operate at fairly high rehearsal volume with the mic blended in at 70% with no feedback. Much better than I expected. The real test, however, will be a gig. I'll report back again once I've had a chance to try it.

I have used the Fishman Pro Blend that is mounted in my Martin...I also have used the p/u in my vintage Ovation. Plugged in, the settings on the Fishman are sensitive and need to be set to a room while the simple volume/bass-treble on the Ovation only needs a little adjustment.

Having said this, I prefer both guitars unplugged and played in front of a Shure Beta instrument mic...a lot less adjustments and a way bigger sound.

Some of this is because the mic is already there for my 12 string, banjo and uke but, I find it easier to adjust sound from the main amp...set it and forget it.

Our instruments are guitars, banjos, and my uke. If you are dealing with brass, things might be different, though
