Default Session DI Owners ...

Are you still happy with and are you still using your LR Baggs Session DI Pedal?

Would you buy the Session DI again if yours was lost or stolen?

Thanks!

I am also curious about this! I just bought the Grace Design Felix and love it but I am considering adding the Session to pair with my acoustic.

Answer. Yes, I would buy it again. Since I started using Dazzos in my guitars recently, I have not needed the Session since there really isn't anything to fix. I would still want it handy.

I am very happy with mine. Love the tone I get with it. I wasn't sold on it when I only could hear the online videos of people using it with amps, but I took a chance and when played live, through a PA, it's great. I just starting pairing it with my Fishman Platinum Pro EQ (Session after the Fishman) and I really like that tone. Even when on its own, though, I would definitely buy it again.

Thanks, Folks, for the responses, so far! I have another question about the Session DI:

Do you find the Session DI works its magic just as well when using a flatpick as it does when fingerpicking with bare flesh and nails?

Amen on the Dazzos. Often asked how I EQ them. Reply is that I don't.

The Session is a more subtle sounding unit and to me part of it's magic is in the "feel" and extra weight to the notes. Those qualities won't really translate well through a demo video. The Session makes sense if your guitar already has onboard eq, you want to add some "mojo" to an existing EQ/DI or in my case my mixer has sweepable mids so I do most EQ'ing there and add the Session for the saturation and compression. Multi-band compression should be fairly transparent and this is why so many complain that they don't hear anything impressive in the demos.

I also have the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ that I use as well and the compressor on that is pretty transparent but more obvious than the Session. EQ'ing options aside if I compare the sound of those two units with the saturation engaged on the Session the Fishman sounds very plain. Kind of the difference between drinking coffee with cream vs plain old tea.

To me the Session works well flat picked or finger picked. It probably depends on your system. For live I use it with a Barbera Soloist and my Rare Earth Blend.

Yes, I love my Session, and would replace if lost/stolen. It fattens and livens my guitars nicely. I go Guit into Session into SA220. Its great whether flatpicked or finger style, but as others have said, it's not something you'll notice absent being the practitioner; you will notice what it does to your tone, but to those listening it will just sound like you have a great guitar

This is curious, I have both but felt like the Session should go before the PPeq. I'd be interested to know why you want the Session after. Since the gain needs too be set at the Session for it to work properly, I typically don't add gain on the PPeq. I suppose it could work fine either way. So maybe tweaking the EQ first, then adding gain and doing the Session CompEQ/Saturate thing afterwards is better?

Thanks!

I just ordered an LR Baggs Acoustic Session DI. Got 12% off at Musician's Friend and it's supposed to be here by Friday.

I know the OP probably got his answer 6 months ago...

Session DI is really great, however, I wish it came with a 3 band EQ... which would make it the perfect DI box.

combining the session with a Venue or Para DI works awesome.

I run both Venue and Session.. couldn't be happier..

Anyone run a magnetic with the Session. I wonder how the coils interact with the Saturate function. I've got an M80 on the way... anxious to try it with my Session.

I've had my LR Bagg Session Acoustic DI for a week, and I've been playing a few guitars with different pickup/preamp systems through it and kind of like the results if I use the Saturation and Compression knobs just enough to start hearing an effect on the amplified tone. I generally have both knobs at 9 to 10 o'clock, and doubt I'll ever go beyond 12 o'clock on either knob. I find I start hearing some distortion, which I don't want to hear, as the Saturation knob is rotated past 11 to 12 o'clock, and distortion is very prevalent past 2 or 3 o'clock. Depending on the guitar's pickup/preamp system, I find the most satisfying positions for the Saturation and Compression knobs can vary.

Please share your LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI's Saturation and Compression knob settings with us. Thanks.

SpruceTop: Saturation and Compression knobs between 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock, and generally with the Compression knob rotated more clockwise than the Saturation knob

Rschultz: I like the comp EQ higher... like noon to 3 o'clock. I don't know if it hurts that much to be too high. Saturation though is different, little to none usually. But I am curious to see how it interacts with a magnetic pickup. Stay tuned!

The exact setting for each can vary a bit.
I individually turn up each control (comp/eq or sat) until I can definitely
hear the effect. Then I back the control down until the effect is just barely
there. Then I do the other effect the same way.

Each ends up between 9 o'clock and 10:30. Similar to others I think it's best
when kept subtle. Adds fatness to the tone.

Given how multi-band compression and saturation work it makes more sense
to me to do any other eq ahead of the Session. But I can't say I've experimented
much that way. And hey, if it sounds good, it works, right? :-)

_Roger
