Default New Bose L1 killer !?

Check this out guys!

Turbosound (a very good and under represented powered speaker maker) is releasing a competitor to the Bose L1 (and LD Systems Maui).

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/IP2000

What excites me is the price and specs. The IP2000 comes with a 12" powered subwoofer (which I always wished for in the Bose L1 configs) - and 17 two inch drivers, with the advanced digital processing one would expect in these towers, for just $799! (The price of a single high-end powered traditional 12 or 15 inch speaker)

There is also a smaller one, obviously competing against the L1 compact / S with 9 drivers and a 2x8" sub:

If anyone has used one of these yet, please give us your impressions!

The price is right but the TurboSound iP2000 isn't light, weighing in at 68 lbs. This is about 20 lbs lighter than a Bose L1 Model II system so it should, can and will arouse immense interest amongst live performers. For $800, (speaker-component bags cost extra) it's very tempting to order a system!

Given its horizontal-dispersion specs of 120-degrees and straight-ahead speaker alignment, the Turbosound iNSPIRE 2000 would seem to be more of a true line-array than the Bose L1 Model II with its articulated-array speaker arrangement and 190-degree horizontal dispersion. It could be that the Bose, however, with its 24 mid-/high-frequency articulated drivers and its column height-to-width ratio, functions as much as a line-array as does the iNSPIRE iP2000's 17 straight-ahead mid-/high-frequency drivers given its speaker-column height-to-width ratio. This would make the Bose L1 Model II with its better horizontal dispersion still the king of portable, line-/articulated-array systems given this characteristic.

Uli (Behringer) strikes again. Turbosound has had a long-standing reputation for quality products (except for their bottom-end line-up). It'll be interesting to read unbiased reviews on this specific product. Klark-Technik (which Uli bought before buying Midas and Turbosound), also has a great reputation for quality products and solid design.

I'd like to try it, but plan to hang on to my L1. It has a spectacular advantage over the new TurboSound: it's paid for!

I've got the IP1000. Its been so long since I've heard the Bose system that I cannot give a good comparison. I do have a friend with the an L1 that I should try to do a side by side.

My main dislike with the 1000 is the height when broke down. The Turbosound website states the column is 2 pc, but this is not the case on the 1000. So you have a just over 4' column when separated from the sub. I sent them an email about their site and inquiring on the shoulder bag, but haven't received a response from 2 weeks ago. The sub on 1000 works great for guitar/vocals, but I can see someone wanting to do some DJ usage would likely want to opt for the add-on sub option.

Aside from the rear controls, there is an IOS app to do some basic controlling such as sound type, volume for each of the channels (and blue tooth), and some basic 3 band eq.

Overall, it's a great deal for the price and seems to be built well. It also shipped in 2 boxes. If they would have sorted out the 2pc column, they could have easily made a rear bracket on the sub to store the columns.

Looked at it, it seems a bit heavier than the L1C. Was thinking about getting a second L1C and did pause that thought when I saw this, but it would be a roll of the dice for me. Even though it's cheaper than the L1C, I think I'll stick to my original plan.

Looking at this, you get 2 channels, but, no eq, reverb, notch filter, nor phase switching?

It would appear that these systems have some DSP included. But, my general understanding is that you will need some sort of mixer to get the most out of them. Also, they have been advertised since NAAM 2015 on Sweetwater's site with no availability. I would be interested in demoing the smaller unit.

How do you like the "KLARK TEKNIK's revolutionary SST (Spatial Sound Technology) for creating 3D acoustic environments" feature of the iP2000? Also, do you miss not having a reverb on the system or maybe there is one? Thanks.

To be honest, I'm not certain I really know what to be listening for to hear the "3D acoustic environment". Not sure if that is just marketing fluff. As far as reverb, there is none unfortunately. I wonder with the BT capability if it can be updated with some additional features like reverb?? I just took some screen shots of my phone app as well as the LCD that I'll upload as TS literature/manual and website really don't show anything useful.

Here are the screen shots. The first few are the IOS app and the 3 band EQ is user adjustable. Then the preset EQ shown on the unit display are the preset options.

If I were to buy the Turbosound iP2000, I'd use it with my TC Helicon VoiceLive 2 (or maybe a newer version) into which I'd plug my mic and my guitar, and then plug-in the TC to one channel of the Turbosound. The TC Helicon would give me excellent reverbs to choose from and harmony vocals should I use them. Using the Turbosound with any mixer or effect device would make it seem to be an excellent choice given its low price.

On paper, when comparing the Turbosound iP2000 to a Bose L1 Model II (without the T1 ToneMatch), the Bose costs 3-1/2 times as much. Both systems are Made In China, so labor costs may be similar. This makes me wonder if the Bose is of higher-quality components and construction or are we paying for the Bose name or a combination of both? I know the Bose systems sound excellent but I've never heard the Turbosound. It would be nice if someone, Kramster comes to mind, could post a video shootout of the two systems.
