Question:
What's the difference between a standard classical guitar and a flemenco guitar? Just curious.

Hi,
This is from my reply to an earlier post about this topic. "Flamenco guitars are built lighter with a bit less body depth, different bracing, and the neck angle is often slightly different. The goal is to have lower action and a more percussive sound than on a classical. The traditional woods are Spanish Cypress and Spruce. Guitars made with these woods are called blanca. These days sycamore is sometimes used instead of cypress. When rosewood and spruce are used for a flamenco guitar it is called a negra. Negra guitars are a more recent development popularized by Paco de Lucia. The negra's are often used for flamenco guitar solo performances rather than as an accompaniment to dancers and singers. Classical guitars are usually either rosewood and spruce or rosewood and cedar. They tend to have more sustain, a higher action, and a richer voice." Regards, Ed |
