My wife found a high dollar Keurig for $9.00 in a second hand shop three years ago that's still going strong. I honestly don't think whoever owned it knew how to use it because it was in brand new condition.

Expensive, but well worth the price if you like coffee. Of course you need a good grinder to complete the system. My daughter bought one about 10 years ago and it’s still going strong. I got this one about a year ago. My son joined the club recently.

In my house, this constitutes an emergency. We always have a back-up ready to go.

Not sure if this is serious...you can break a metal/thermos-style carafe?

Is your real name Bruce Banner...?

I have a cafetiere , add boiling water to fresh ground coffee, wait a bit , push the plunger, pour and enjoy.

Rinse out under tap when done.....

I take mine strong and black with a hint of sugar .

Am I missing out on something that one of these machines -which look like a right PITA- would give me ?

(Serious q. No sarcasm intended)

The single cup brewer I got has proven to be more economical with the coffee. I'm using 1/4 to 1/2 pound less each week. Making 1 cup at a time eliminates throwing out the leftover coffee from a pot. Each cup is fresh and hot. Clean-up is simply rinsing the filter if I use ground. With a K-cup, you just throw out the used cup.

Of course , being a true Brit, I usually drink tea anyway.

Java when watching an old Bogie movie or I’m reading about Jack Reacher.

HHP, can you please explain the term "leftover coffee"....

Is that some exotic brew I've never heard of?

No, I wasn’t kidding. The ones I’ve broken in the past had a fragile glass liner (think thermos bottle) that broke when I put my hand inside to clean it. Perhaps the MoccaMaster doesn’t have that feature. If it doesn’t, that would be very nice.

Lots of views on coffee making, so here's mine. Several posts have mentioned French Press or Aeropress, and I have both. You can get a French Press in various capacities, up to 12 cups. However, I usually use a pour over cone, again you can get them in different sizes, I use a medium one with a #4 filter for a 12 oz mug, although I do have smaller and larger cones. I think the coffee is as good as with the press method, and clean up is easier, just toss the filter and rinse the cone.

If you make 8 cups, and only drink 4, what else would you call it?

For me, I'd call it my obituary...

"Denny B died today...we knew it was critical because he made 8 cups of coffee and only drank 4..."

.......
