Post Martin ALternative X

I finally came across one of these guitars recently. The first time I saw a picture, I thought the top was just painted, but it's honest-to-god aluminum, and the rest is man-made, including Micarta for the fingerboard and bridge. It has a strangely muted tone, and I found that it sounds better from the listener's side. I didn't hear it plugged in, though. It's interesting, but at around $750 retail, I'm not sure how many they'll sell. Just an observation.

Cool

If you get the price high enough, people will buy just about anything.JW

Well,
They sold one at least. I have a weakness(GAS) for Aluminum Guitars, besides Taylors and Les Pauls.
The Alternatve X is part of Martins X series.(affordable) Yes,The top is solid aluminum the body is composite,Ovation like. The tone is fair, but does sound better from the front. It has a Fishman EQ with notch filter and sounds good plugged in.

You can see it along with my other aluminums at "Aluminum Collection"

Nice Collection!! If the floral aluminun strrat is the one of a kind, Im going to break your heart, Ive got its twin brother. I almost fell over in my chair when i saw it. While I dont really like it for a player its neat. The martin Alternative X is interesting, Looks like something I might build. Im going to have to find one just to try it. Some very very nice electrics!!! JW

Kevin, I apologize if I offended you; if so, it was unintentional. I have to admit that there's something strangely compelling about that Martin. And I agree with JW -- cool collection!

No offense taken CP.

We all have our own ideas of what makes the perfect guitar or collection. That's what I like about collecting. I get to see what everyone elses vision is, and at the same time show my vision to others as well.

JW: I'd love to see a picture of my twin. Shoot me an Email I'd like to talk about the guitar.

Default Martin Alternative X

I have had one of these for several years and it's terrific. It's not very loud, but the sound is clear and balanced and the amplification is excellent (I use it with a Yamaha TH5A amp and a Skyline Choir chorus pedal).
I bought it partly for its playability and perfect intonation, and it remains my main guitar. I have no problem with the materials, and as someone else mentioned, it's climate proof.
