Default Why is every other person on the internet misspell elixir as elixer? :)

It's not like it's a made up word or intentionally misspelled to make a brand name. Yet still, many spell it wrong. And it's usually native speakers who make the mistake. Why is that?

I'm not a native speaker and in my language, it's always spelled (and pronounced) with "i", so it feels natural to write it like that in English, but for natives it apparently is not.

Probably the same reason every other person one The Internet spells it elixir, instead of Elixir.

Although it is totally understandable to be casual in forum speak, especially if you are not a native English speaker, you lose a bit of the "righteous indignation" aura when you butcher the grammar of your title, then have two titles missing capitalization, all while criticizing others for their writing mistakes.

just sayin....glass houses and all

It's pretty much the only word out of the whole guitar-related vocabulary that I noticed is constantly misspelled.

I'm not criticizing, I'm just curious. There are words that people who are not native speakers struggle with, myself included. This one is the other way round and to me it seems to be a rare instance.

BTW, yes, I messed up the title, wanted to say one thing, changed my mind halfway through and forgot to change to beginning

I do it because I'm 55 and nobody can make me write it 50 times on a blackboard anymore.

As a fellow user of the Queen's English, I'm sure you'll agree that our American cousins cannot spell with or without the use of spell-check.

We usually don't worry too much about spelling and grammar, but criticizing either leaves the OP open to feedback on the other...
