Tom, it was great working with you. I loved the woods you picked, I loved your gentle but informed input and that you didn't ask me to do all sorts of gaudy inlay up and down the neck. When I can build guitars like this- simple, with sweet woods and a friendly working relationship I know I have the best job in the world. I have made about 20 EllieBelles now. I really like to hunker down on a design and whittle away at the sonic details until I feel like I have some idea what's going on. It's very gratifying to be able to anticipate with some accuracy what a certain wood, or a certain alteration of a brace location is going to contribute to the sound of a guitar. I had anticipated the particular crystalline decay that the Honduran Rosewood contributed to the sound, and that old sitka I can rely on for a certain punch and clarity. So cool! I just finished a Red Spruce over Myrtle EllieBelle, and it is a beast! I can hear how these two guitars are siblings- they sort of speak with the same vocabulary, but their vowel sounds are different. The Myrtle is effortless and clean and endlessly powerful, and the Cinnamon Girl is sophisticated and piano like. But they are both EllieBelles! So cool to observe. Really, it was a pleasure Tom, and I thank you again for your order. |
