You know, it's like living in NYC and never going to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Here we've got this living legend of flatpicking, and I haven't listened to him in years. I've got a couple of his old records (as in vinyl) that I really need to dust off. Thanks for the reminder!

He played here last Fall, a double bill with...get this...Leo Kottke. Unbelievable. He started the set with his grandson, Merle's son, and then continued with a guy from the carolinas whose name I have forgotten but was great.
I once played in a band that opened for Doc, this is back when Merle was alive, we got to hang out with them in the trailer backstage...one of the biggest thrills of my life. Felt like Wayne's World when they meet Aerosmith..."we're not worthy, we're not worthy!"
