"Pretty Boy Floyd" by Woody Guthrie
As well as his version of "Jesse James." Both of which probably had something to do with my writing the song "Seven Pistols." But maybe most of all was Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for a Train," even though it wasn't really about outlaws. Just that image of the horses hidden in the canyon near where the train has to slow down. But I must admit, I have always liked "Desperado" even though it has sort of become a parody of itself, after Seinfeld did an episode about it. I played that album practically through its grooves when I was a teenager. So the whole "Doolin Dalton - Desperado" suite is a big favorite even though I hadn't seen this short film since I saw it on Don Kirchner's Rock Concert, and was surprised to actually find it on YouTube. Hey Pachuco! Hey Man!
Romeo is Bleeding is an excellent choice. Except that it is a Rap, technically speaking, rather than a song - in the traditional sense of the term. As is Small Change (Got Rained on by His Own 38,) which is also a great choice. But as much as I like Copperhead Road, I have not been able to get Kid Charlemagne out of my head ALL night, thanks to this thread! Last edited by OneMansGuitar; 04-01-2017 at 11:11 AM. |
