He also initiated the first rock 'n Roll concert ever held in the U.S. at the Cleveland Arena.
In the early 70's WMMS Radio in Cleveland pioneered the FM radio movement for "underground" rock music. Whereas AM radio had become formula-driven and payola scandals abounded, a small group of ardent zealots at WMMS were wholly responsible for introducing the "album" concept and progressive rock to FM radio.
WMMS also was responsible for first exposure to the public of such artists as Springsteen, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, the Pretenders, Pat Benatar, Mott the Hoople, Lou Reed and many many others. Cleveland is rich in its history as the "Rock 'n Roll capital. That's why despite the best efforts of a group of New York City moguls, the "Hall of Fame"resides in Cleveland today. As far as the organization itself, well that's a whole other story. It resides in New York City and you would have to ask those people about what benefits it provides. I won't even comment on that.
This is a little off topic, but then I don't really know or care who is in the "hall of fame". After all, it's kind of ridiculous. But to suggest that Cleveland radio was radio was responsible for the first public dissemination of Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, etc. Come on. And the real reason that the the organizers chose Cleveland was because the city put up $65 million.

I look at all the associations that build, promote and place pedestals under their own opinions, which is pretty much all it is, and wonder how they get the respect they do.

Rock n' Roll is a load of bollocks. Just like any sort of ranking of creative art.

Having said that, The Moody Blues are a non-addictive sleep aid.
