I can't be the only one that's feeling gutted for not having hung on to their $30 guitars . . . Just imagine ....

Today they could be worth $30 !

Ps. Liking the brake cable and cheese wire analogy Oz.

I was about 8 or 9 and had been begging for a guitar for a couple years. My parents didn't believe in an allowance, ( they came from farming families where kids were expected to work for getting a roof over their head and 3 square meals), so I had no money.

My dad came home one day with an old guitar he found in a junk store for $10. It was worth it just to shut me up. It was a piece of junk, alright! Someone had tried to convert it to an electric so there were 3 holes drilled into the top where the knobs had been. The neck was bowed, as stated earlier, like a banana. The action was about 3/4"at the body.

I tried to play it and of course I just got frustrated and put it in the closet.
About 20 years later I bought my first real guitar and took lessons...this time I stuck with it.

Sweet! I left mine in my car one cold night and the finish cracked on it. I was just a stupid teenager who didn't know any better. I gave it to my little brother when he was learning to play. I'm not sure what he did with it. I think he used it in a trade for another guitar.

Ex-bandmate used to have one exactly like it - a notch above the Teisco/Kingston/Zim-Gar etc. jobber crap quality-wise, but still a far cry from what Japanese electrics would become in a mere four or five years...

I don't remember the name of my first guitar. I bought it at a Monkey Wards store I believe. Had to ask my family to travel 60 miles to get it since it was in the big city. I think I paid $125 or so for it. It, of course, was horrible to play but I did keep at it. However, trying to teach myself out of a couple Mel Bay books was a very slow process. Took it shortly after i bought to a friends house to check out. He took a minute to look at it and then said, man, I'd sell you my Kay for 125 bucks. And to be honest the sound comparison wasn't even close, his sounded that much better. However, my family was not going to make a trip back to the city to have me return it, it all seemed like foolishness to them anyway. No pics that I know of and I don't remember even selling it, which is odd since I tend to remember those kinds of things.
