Really great. She's really pushes boundaries with this band. Mohini Day on bass is a total phenom. Rick Beato did an interview with her that's worth checking out. Also I dig Zach Tenorio on piano. So much good music these days, despite the overwhelming media saturation of corporate two chord autotuned swill written by committee.

Not my cup of tea. I bailed halfway through it.

WOW! I really dig it! This beats the run of the mill commercial junk 1000 fold. I’d love to see them in concert.

excellent. So difficult to stay this tight with a complex and dynamic piece like this. Well done!

I am glad so many of you liked it. Not a big hit with me. Guess I am not hip enough, sounded discordant and chaotic to me, not something I could listen to for long.

I chimed in already as impressed. But mostly because it was very technically very cool and they played tight!

But yes, in fact, I could not listen to this --or at least choose to-- for more than two songs, or maybe three, tops. In fact, the vocalist was my least favorite. Miles Davis was a player's player, for example, but man I could only stand so much of that jaw-dropping prowess for so long. As goes across other genres, as well. Still, it was a cool watch!

I don’t think it’s hipness that’s required, but rather an appreciation of technical ability. If you tried learning it, you realize how much needs to go into being able to perform with those time signatures and not mess up. Kind of like the modern day Theloneous Monk IMO. Or to compare it to something modern, the jazz to Polyphia’s rock.

she must be popular to land on the Tonight Show, but not my personal style of music.

Awesome!

If you dig this, I hope you know about Esperanza Spalding...kindred spirits for sure.

just to open up the discussion here. I agree with what you are getting at.

I think the appreciation of technique is often a separate thing from the listening aspect.

Those guys are monster players. The piano player is amazing.

By the same token, I think Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani are amazing guitar players

Considering I've been playing for 50, years, and a competent player myself.

I get exactly what they are doing, and what was required to achieve their level of skill. Virtuosos 100%

That said

I can't listen to more than one of their songs at any given time.

just my take,

and I love the fact that there are still people doing this kind of music as well.

we do not need another carbon copy of a Beyonce or a Taylor Swift.

It's just not something I can really relate to.

I feel the same exact way.

For me, there is an infinite difference between being entertained musically versus just watching someone show off their talent. Those two things are not the same.

I saw Yngwie Malmstein in concert once. One of the most talented and classically trained shredders ever to live. It was a cringeworthy, ear-exhausting barrage of notes with no musicality whatsoever. I hated every minute of it and was glad when he finished so the main act came on.
