Default Poling Commission

I've been in discussions with Brock Poling and have recently commissioned a Poling Sierra model. The guitar will have Cuban Mahogany back and sides and a Lutz Spruce top. Most likely will add a soundport. At this point more detailed specs are being put together, along with capturing what I'd like for the tone of the guitar.

When the guitar gets started I'll start a build thread. At this point all I can share is my builder selection process, and how the interaction with Brock has worked. So, feel free to contact me with questions.

Anybody have experience with a compound radius fretboard?

Not much to look at yet, except for the Cuban Mahogany that was selected. Brock said this set is very old, very well quartered, and even denser than other cuban sets.

Congrats Chuck! You will no doubt enjoy the process and in the end have a spectacular guitar! I have seen a lot of Brocks stuff and its top shelf in every respect.....

Congrats, Chuck! I had a chance to meet Brock and play one of his guitars at Newport and I was truly impressed.

The set of Cuban you guys have chosen is really stunning!

Kindly,
Danny

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement. To hear so many talented luthiers compliment Brock's guitars makes me feel even more confident about selecting a Poling guitar.

Great mahogany! Congrats! Will look forward to the build thread. I've been impressed with Brock's work - via pics - and hope to experience it first hand one of these days!

I don't like to stick my nose in other builder's threads but I do have to say this:
Brock takes the time with the little details that make a difference and in the end you'll end up with a top notch guitar.

Congrats!

Hey Brock, what is the golf ball for? I know different builders like to use and develop different methods but.....

I throw that at people who disturb me while I am using power tools.

Default Progress Update

Brock has been preparing some of the parts that will be used in my upcoming Sierra build. Here's a few pictures of 'in progress' parts. The sides have been bent and laminated; the one of the left has been sanded clean after the lamination, the one on the right is still covered in shellac and epoxy. The side on the right also gives an idea of what the finished guitar color will be like.
