Default Dark Side Of The Moon

Played to death? - certainly. Pretentious? - yup. Sixth grade lyrics? - no doubt about it. For all its obvious failings I still love this record - I was 13 when it was originally released and all these years later it is one of the few records from that era that still stand up today IMO. Anyway there is a new DVD from the "Classic Album" series devoted to DSOTM. Features interviews with the band and producer / engineer going through the album track by track - quite a lot of Dave Gilmour demonstrating the various guitar parts (although not a Taylor in sight i'm afraid). Anyone who retains a soft spot for this record should get this DVD.

'Dark Side of the Moon' is a great album. Me and my buds get together for a BBQ last night, and popped that album in. We must have played it about 10 times during the night. It's definately an album that you can just sit back and chill out too.

One thing that has always caught me of guard is how the sound of the production is very simular to how production sounds on many albums today.

when I was in college I was dating this girl that liked Air Supply. So....figuring I would really impress her I purchased tickets to an Air Supply concert. (pretty lame, huh)

that relationship ended before the concert so I got stuck with the tickets. I think I ended up giving them to my aunt.

call it my brush with death...

Default Dark Side of the Moon

One of the 10 best albums in all of rockdom. Alan Parson's also had a lot to do with all that in my opinion. Pink Floyd was good before that album but very unfocused and the quality of their tunes was all over the place.

Alan Parson's did wonders with Al Stewart (Year of the Cat album) and Ambrosia's early album.

Parson's was to Floyd what George Martin was to the Beatles. In fact, I think Parsons' did some work on one later Beatles album and possibly later with Paul.

The better that sound systems and re-mastering get, the better that old Pink Floyd album sounds. A rarity indeed. I have heard that the heartbeat (first and last sounds heard on the album) is the metronome for every track ... that the beat would sync. Who knows but still a great listen.

Pretentious!?! SIXTH GRADE LYRICS!?! OBVIOUS FAILINGS!?!

You've got to be kidding
This is one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time. Great songs. Great vocals. Awesome production. Several killer guitar solos by Gilmore.

I love that haunting opera singer-type vocal backup at different places in the album.

Totally agree - as I said I love this album as much now as I did when I was a teenager and there aren't many records that I can say that about. Anyway the main point of this thread was to highlight the new DVD about this amazing record - it really is a must have. Sixth grade lyrics? - well that comes straight from the horses mouth (Roger Waters).

That would be Claire Torry's voice you're hearing. One of the most beautiful, soulful vocals ever, IMO.

The very reason I named my 410 Claire...
