I don't think the Sony has any issues with the .wav files it records being converted, it just doesn't record directly to mp3 which means extra step(s) in processing the files.

The main things I looked for in a field recorder were:

• Quality of recording - variable and on the fly
• Size
• Convenience - ability to use it once setup without digging around menus a lot
• Batteries - I wanted off-the-shelf or replaceable batteries, not built in rechargeable (because if a built in battery goes dead you are dead in the water till you find power and take the time to recharge the internal battery)
• The ability to hook it to a tripod or mic stand (to position it for use easily)
• Ease of use - can it be setup to record quickly, can it transfer files to a computer quickly
• good reputation

Tested out zoom h4 to record the sound..

it's straight stereo recording through Sony ECM 959 DT mic..

i didn't expect this great quality..but it's great recorder for sure..yay~
