Default Emerald owners with Baggs Active Element VTC - Your most necessary feedback

Hey guys,

Thread is self explanatory.

I know many raved over the K&K. But I think the Baggs UST still have its place.

For one I know is, if I want to go fusion and add distortion, the Element will have an edge over the Minis in this aspect (ust = no feedback issue).

Seeking your much needed insight.

Umm... I have the LR Baggs Element VTC (sounds good), but I can't help with the distortion question... last time I used distortion was 1978.

Ok, I found running my X20 with Baggs into a Lemon Aid pedal then into my RNP (really nice preamp) is an absolutely amazing tone. It's separates the tone of each sting and harmonics just perfectly. At least for me. Best amplified tone I have.

Have you ever try going into the lemon aid and then a direct box instead?
Can you not depend on the RNP to get the good time?

I use my RNP almost all the time when I'm amplified no matter what I'm going into and I'm always pretty happy with that tone. The Lemon Aid, on one certain setting is just magic with that guitar though. I'll take a picture of the settings if you want.

Great thanks for the info.

How about bypassing the Lemon Aid? Will the Element and RNP do it for you?

I have the Mi-Si equivalent of the Element VTC in a RainSong H-DR1100N2 and I have used a Tube Screamer with it when I want to cover a rock lead in my duo (such as Santana's Smooth). It works well, though lately I've been using a Fishman ToneDEQ with the compression set at 10 o'clock for leads.

Thanks Jon.

Your valuable post made me feel like changing to title of the thread to "Element VTC of all CF guitar owners".

I suppose signal from the element UST is stronger and compressed enough for drive pedals and single note playing?

I was using a Fulltone Full-Drive3 most recently between my guitar and the mixer; clean boost for songs like Amie, slightly distorted boost for leads in songs like Drive My Car, and boost to OD for Smooth.

This all worked just fine and sounded good. Lately I've been challenging myself to try to do our entire repertoire without distortion and the compression in the ToneDEQ helps (me) quite a bit. I actually got an astonished "wow your guitar sounded great tonight" from my the other guy in our duo the first gig I used the ToneDEQ instead of the Full-Drive (which was our regular restaurant gig last Saturday). I think he thought the tone was improved for solos and rhythm.

Bottom line is if the stage volume is not too high, a UST to a overdrive pedal is a very good electric tone. My decision to back away was more about the challenge of playing without the extra sustain and enjoying the clarity of an acoustic guitar's tone.

BTW, I am adding reverb and the slightest touch of chorus to fatten the UST tone throughout the gig. I had a K&K mini in my older RainSong dreadnought and while it could sound maybe a bit better in small quiet settings, it was feedback prone (just a nightmare at festival gigs with big PAs and floor monitors), and sometimes very EQ finicky to get even a passable tone is some venues. I did not think it was OD pedal usable, but others might have had success.

Many thanks jon.

Is the Element body sensitive? Thinking of using the guitar for some percussive passages with a looper.

Yes; I do a few minor percussion parts on my guitar (Pumped Up Kicks intro and Heart Full of Soul bongo parts immediately come to mind).
