Default Ripping DVD audio to Mp3??

I would love to capture some of the tracks off of my library of DVD lessons that I can put on my iPod so that I can listen to them over and over again...helps to drive it into my head....and hands!

Can any one recommend software...preferably freeware for this application?

thanks

Chris

Have you tried Windows Media player?

Do you know what format are the racks on the DVD in?

A lot of people like Audacity, but it's got some idiosyncracies that I don't like, like saving to its proprietary format. You can create MP3 from Audacity, but only with their 'import' feature, which you use after you save the file in their format. It also created a bunch of auxilliary files, the use of which is beyond me.

I got DAK's WAV/MP3 editor for a very reasonable price; it's easy to use, and it saves directly to WAV or MP3 format.

Of course, you'll have to record the DVD's audio in real time, but this will do the trick.

Hey Blues in VT I use MP3MyMp3 2.0 to record the DVD parts and convert to mp3's to load on the I-Pod.

http://www.mp3mymp3.com/

It is freeware and works like a charm. You need to identify the source of the music and adjust the recording levels and then viola set it to record. After save it as an mp3 and good to go.

Best, Eric -

If all else fails, download the trial version of Sony Vegas, import the DVD, drag the lesson part to your video track, and render it out as an .mp3.

Not free at 40 bucks, but I love Polderbits. I bought it years ago when it was about 20 bucks. Buy once and you get free upgrades forever.

http://www.polderbits.com/

Very user friendly and intuitive. I especially like the latest version which lets you record direct in stereo from the sound card in your PC. Anything that can drive the speakers can drive the input. I've recorded the sound from YouTube videos, song demos, and even some of the stuff AGF folks have posted here directly to an mp3 or wma file that I can edit, eq, trim for size etc...

Download and try it free for 7 days too. If you work fast you can probably do all the transferring you need under the free trial!

Actually, that is incorrect. You can save files directly to mp3 and other formats.

Hi 6ss...
It is true that if you purchase the plug-in you can use Audacity to directly create mp3. I never bothered to purchase it since iTunes does the same for free (as well as a host of other programs).

I'm not sure how to rip just the audio from the DVD though before processing it to mp3.

Cheers to all!!
