Thanks Marcus! I can't wait to see what Jason does with the rest of the guitar!

Any story to go with this wonderful build?
CS, this whole thread is dedicated to this build! The story began with me debating between the OM and the 00. I guess I went with the OM! (this time )

Is that really BRW - looks so straight and quartered it just HAS to build a fabulous sounding guitar.

I see the OM won out over the OO. I'm hoping to get my hands on one of Jason's OO models in the next week or so so I can hear what the fuss is about first hand.

Cheers,
Steve
Steve, I did decide to go with the OM. I had Jason's 00 in my home for a bit and I really loved the guitar. A lot of people have been asking me about the 00 and it is a smaller, more intimate guitar.

It also has a shorter scale and is 12th fret as well. This shorter scale gives that nice lower string tension and the 12th fret moved the bridge more into the soundboard which some people say give it a little more bass and sustain.

I asked Jason about this and he thinks he can do the same with his OM. He also thinks that his OM is a more versatile guitar.

I am a bigger guy so I think the OM will be plenty small and intimate for me. Maybe I need to get a 12th fret short scale OM!

I think so too! It's gonna play and sound better than it looks!

Josh, I really do love this wood. This set was my second runner up for my first Kostal. I really wanted straight grain, but the set for my Mod D really rang for a bit longer. Just want I needed for my Mod D!

This set rang very nice, but seems like it will be more focused. Perfect for an OM!

Here is a pic before and after the back was joined:

Jason said before he joined the back, it really looked amazing. He said after it was joined and he gave it a better sanding, it was more of a "holy cow/knock your socks" off gorgeous.

We will hone in more details after Memphis and I'll be picking this OM up at Woodstock!

I've been following this thread with great interest. Makes me think that Jason Kostal is the Somogi apprentice that is, Jedi style, taking the place of the master.

Thanks Matthew! In my first Kostal thread I noted that I had a similar thought about Jason and the master

On a side note (still involves a Kostal guitar ), I had the wonderful opportunity to take a guitar seminar/class with one of my favorite guitarists, Pierre Bensusan! The class was very intimate and had about 6 or 7 people and Pierre up front. He shared his philosophy on making music and shared a great lesson. This was definitely one class that I will remember for the rest of my life. I think I have to take a trip to France to visit Pierre for private lessons!

After the class, Pierre had a concert and it was a smaller more intimate venue. It felt like he was playing for us in someone's house. I was able to sit just a few feet from him and enjoy his wonderful music!

After his main set, I asked him to play La Hora Espanola, which is my favorite song. He said that he hasn't played that in a while, but went right into it. Man, that was such a treat!

Well here are some pictures of the workshop:

And then the master playing my Kostal. I have never heard my guitar sound like that!

I texted Jason to tell him that his guitar sounded so incredible in Pierre's hands.

He texted back with this picture!

Adrian Legg, Jason Kostal, and Pierre Bensusan. Three masters at their craft. Jason just saw them at their last show in Phoenix. How fun!

Wow, terrific pics and post, Eric.

Pierre Bensusan is one of my absolute favorites. While I suspect he sounds masterful on just about anything, on a Kostal it must have been that much better.

I've also considered going to France for those seminars - perhaps we can put an AGF excursion together? : )

AGF excursion would be great! Lets do it! I don't think I can swing the August date, but maybe some other time in the future

He really is one of my favorites. Speaking to him before and after the concert, he is such a nice and humble man. So much respect for him!

I guess its not far off 30 years ago that I used to go and see Adrian Legg play at the Almeda wine bar in Islington London, every Saturday night. He sat in the corner and played while the punters drank wine at their tables; simple. The wine cost a few pounds and the guitar playing was free. I stumbled across him by accident and couldn't believe what I was hearing on a steel string, especially the banjo tuners changing tuning within a song. Unbelievable. I still have a signed copy of his first album "fretmelt" on vinyl, bought from him in that corner. Long time ago now...

Cheers,
Steve

Kostal in Memphis. A little late, but never before seen pics!

Taking Kostal out to dinner.....

Kostal enjoying fried chicken!

I actually was driving through Memphis on the way to Arkansas. I missed the show by a few weeks, but had to get my Gus's! I didn't want to leave the guitar in the hot car, so I brought it in to join me

Default A new Journey in Life, a new guitar, a new Kostal! Brazilian/German ???

With each piece of interaction I have with Jason- be it a conversation, or seeing a video like this, to hearing his instruments being played: I'm left with the same reaction- I am incredibly lucky that I will one day own two of his instruments, and more so I am very blessed to be friends with such a quality human being!!!!

Thank you for sharing this Eric!!!!!!!!
