Default Some interesting headstocks....

I have three that will go out before the woodstock show. This first one is a tribute guitar to the Chad Mitchel trio. The scrimshaw was not done by me but rather Bob Hergert. It is done in a really nice piece of mammoth Ivory. The surround is brazilian rosewood and cocobolo

Back veneer is cocobolo and the knobs are padouk which Matches the coco in color but not in allergens.

The neck is walnut, blackwood and king wood.

More pegheads coming.

That's a great headstock. I've got a lot of love for the Chad Mitchell Trio. They were one of my favorites when I was a lad.

Thanks
Bob Singer commissioned this guitar and since he is friends with the remaining members of that group he plans to give it to them some time or other.

Thank you Mark. Most kind. Your guitar pics inspired the green background. Hope that's ok.

Of course! Wood looks great on green and the reflections don't show up so much.

Default Black and white ebony guitar

Its not really black and white under finish, its black and gold-ish. This neck mimics that.

Im sure you recognize the tuners, but perhaps not the knobs.

pearl and padouk position markers. Matches the rosette.[url=https://johnkinnaird.smugmug.com/Rosettes/Guitar-gallery/i-mM3fkFZ/A][/url

Thanks Bro, and come to think about it you are right there is another. The tuners are on back order but here it is with holes.

Honduran burl on front, Bicote on back. Zircote fingerboard which will have silver hawks inlayed in strategic places. Neck is mahogany with maple and king wood laminates inside

That scrimshaw is great. Get a little nervous cutting for the tuners?

I cut the tuner holes and washer recesses before I sent it off for the scrimshaw. What really messed me up was when I decided to put a thin layer of epoxie over the top to protect the art work during finishing. BAD idea. All the black coloring inside the scrimshaw cavities dissolve in the epoxie. The epoxie filled the cavities making for an unrecoverable mess. I had to scrape down to the bone (so to speak) and send it back for a do over. (Which was not free . )
