I sometimes do inverse strumming where I strum the top 3-4 strings (the bass is strummed) with my thumb and alternate the the 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd or 1st and 3rd strings with my index and middle fingers (the high notes are alternated like the bass would be in normal strumming). I also do strum / picked arrangements where when I hit a bass note with my thumb I also pluck a melody note with either my ring or middle finger.

I was just watching a Youtube video of Chet Atkins and Les Paul this morning and dang if Chet wasn't alternating between fingerstyle and using his thumbpick as a regular pick. Really interesting to see how and when he used each technique.
It's so incredible to have this resource available with the click of a mouse. Rick

I use fingerpicks, so to strum I use the back of my ring and pinky fingers for down strokes, and the upside of the thumbpick blade for upstrokes. No big deal.
