I do this as well. As long as she's not tripping over them she's okay with 3 of them sitting in a corner somewhere out of the way. I joke that I snuck my last one in piece by piece but I made it a point to tell her what I was doing.

My wife knows what I have because our house is too small to hide stuff. Further, she knows that I am responsible with money.

Further, we married late - and our money is separate. I recommend this.

Gee, I couldn't do the "what, this old thing" with my husband. We can sniff out a new guitar in the house as soon as one of us walks in.

I don't know where he hid his "collection" or any other details, just didn't seem like my business. My friends didn't offer and I didn't ask. They did say most guitars didn't appear to be played.

I do wonder if guitar hoarding was his only secret,...

At least guitars don't smell bad if you have too many. Maintaining that many becomes a little tedious. Then again, if someone has 72 guitars in a hidden wing, they can afford to have someone else fix them up.

Many, many years ago, I sneaked a couple of guitars in the house without telling my wife, but just felt so guilty that I ended up telling her anyway.

Now we actually have a good understanding and she supports my guitar buying wholeheartedly. It DOES help that we also have two young sons who are avid guitar players who also enjoy 'collecting' guitars.

As long as other critical bills are paid for, spare income can be allocated for new guitars quite safely.

Ted - could be the other way around: maybe he had a separate house and huge bank account.

I can't imagine this either. That's nuts.

My wife probably thinks I have too many guitars, but when she looks at other husbands whose hobbies run towards golf, sports cars, and boats, she realizes it could be a lot worse.

Having to sneak and hide guitars, or anything, would take all the pleasure out of owning them for me. Plus it could be a recipe for divorce.

My wife likes those hanging on the wall........but she never seems to notice those sitting on the floor

....so it makes no difference if I add more to those on the floor.....
