Oh, my. Me likey.

Now, if I could only talk Ashvin into making a 12 fret version of his 12 string neck I'd be in nirvana. Two Shorties - my current six and a new 12 - and I would be set for life.

I know neck molds are expensive, but I can dream. Beg, even.

Had some time to A/B/C/D some Rainsong Jumbos yesterday and I think the new 12-Fret will appeal to folks who don't care for the added clarity of carbon guitars but like the volume. The NS configuration gives up some projection but only at the higher frequencies so you still get plenty of power, and there is no loss in note separation or overtones.

As for feel, as expected this Jumbo has a more intimate feel thanks to the shorter reach, that along with the lower tension of the short scale means this guitar is a dream to play. I had a Gibson JM200 12-Fret for a short time that I really regret selling so it was especially nice to play this new Jumbo.

BTW, this is not an exclusive, any dealer can order one of these for you, we just happened to be the first to do so. So now we just need a cutaway option on Jumbos and Dreads and I can stop harassing Ashvin for a while.

here! here! I second that! That would be great with a short scale. Anything for less tension.

A 1.75 inch nut width would also be appreciated.

My dream: a 12 string Black Ice Shorty with abalone accruements. And if I win the big lottery tonight I can finance the new neck mold!

Anyone dreaming about any new 12-string designs from RainSong is going to be disappointed: RainSong is discontinuing their 12-string models.

I think this guitar looks interesting. However, I can't imagine buying a 12-fret guitar without a cutaway. I need some access to the upper frets.

I am surprised that Rainsong can't take the non cutaway mold and make a aluminum cutaway block that would fit perfectly and give them a cutaway mold with much less expense? Could do it on their DR1000 as well. Given there may not be that much volume needed they may be able to use a cheaper material than aluminum?

Hi Eric,

The longer scale will provide a deeper bass and more sustain but the difference would be minor. BTW, the 12-fret Jumbo pictured is the only one ever built and I don't think Rainsong is ready to build any more.

Hi Brian,

Not sure what the 12-string has to do with this thread but you are right, Rainsong has discontinued production of 12-string guitars for now.

As for 12-fret guitars and cutaways, I'm with you, I definitely prefer a cutaway on most 12-fret guitars, but you might be surprised to hear that you and I are in the minority on this. In fact when Ashvin introduced the Shorty I immediately got calls about non cutaway versions from folks with a more traditional taste, same with the Parlor.

I would love to see Rainsong offer both cutaway and non cutaway versions of all their models but I'm not the one who has to pay for the molds.
