Ted, I was responding to three comments about 12-string versions in this thread:

"Now, if I could only talk Ashvin into making a 12 fret version of his 12 string neck I'd be in nirvana."

"here! here! I second that! That would be great with a short scale."

"My dream: a 12 string Black Ice Shorty with abalone accruements."

Got it! And a short scale 12-string sounds pretty god to me as well.

Hi Brian,

Not sure what the 12-string has to do with this thread but you are right, Rainsong has discontinued production of 12-string guitars for now.

As for 12-fret guitars and cutaways, I'm with you, I definitely prefer a cutaway on most 12-fret guitars, but you might be surprised to hear that you and I are in the minority on this. In fact when Ashvin introduced the Shorty I immediately got calls about non cutaway versions from folks with a more traditional taste, same with the Parlor.

I would love to see Rainsong offer both cutaway and non cutaway versions of all their models but I'm not the one who has to pay for the molds.
I have to say I am in the non cutaway camp. It is the one of the reasons I have the JM1000. But on the Parlor I just like their cutaway, I think it was perfectly executed for that guitar.

Dang just how much do these MOLDS cost to make? Wouldn't it pay for itself in a year or too.

A lot. And no, they just can only make and sell so many. CF makers are pretty small companies.

At that kind of cost, they should figure out another, less expensive and more flexible way…like Emerald has.

RainSong is the oldest and most established CF guitar builder. It's kind of hard to suggest that they should change the way they build guitars at this point.

Plus one Brian. BTW, not only is Rainsong the oldest and most established CF guitar builder, but they are the most successful as well.
