good mic to use?
I was just wondering what would be a good mic to use while micing the guitar and or if anyone out there might run the mic into any kind of preamp or eq and then to the amp?

Are you using a specific amplifier/PA and does it have XLR and/or 14"inputs? Quiet or noisy venues? Indoors or outdoors? Budget? Ric

I'll take a recommendation for a mic to use in a quiet room, with the mic pointed at the guitar and run into an acoustic guitar amp, with the amp played for my own benefit. XLR or 1/4"; phantom okay. Just sometimes want to hear that perspective.
I'm not the OP, though! So, make sure to answer his question, if he gives more detail about what he wants!

I'm just going into a fishman loudbox mini mainly at home in my basement and some small venue open mics. I can do either xlr or 1/4 input.

Hard to go wrong with a Shure SM57 or Shure Beta 57A.

At most open mics, the host wants you to plug into their PA system, not setting up a mic for a guitar - due to the vendue st up, it may not work to get much volume, no matter how 'quiet' the place really is. Always check with the host -many times they'll recommend you borrow their guitar (with pickup, of course) rather than miking your guitar.
