I haven't posted in a while but I couldn't not post this here. Its from 6 years ago (wow, I can't believe that it's been that long) and it's simple and I'd LIKE to think my writing and playing and singing are a little better now! So after being told that I suck, I wrote this song. Oh yeah, it's a talking and singing song.

I Wrote This Song Because You Said I suck

https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10754759

Chorus
I wrote this song because you said I suck
Sorry you got to hear it, guess that’s your bad luck
My singing is atrocious, my playing’s even worse
My love of music, I guess that that’s a curse
When they hand me that Grammy, I’ll just smile and say “aw shucks”
Cause I wrote this song, because you said I suck

Verse 1
I was buskin on a corner, when you walked by with your mutt
You laughed at my tip jar, tossed in your Marlboro butt
I guess that I’m funny, cause you laughed until you cried
You told the world I suck, one by one as they walked by

Chorus

Verse 2
I was playing my showcase, at a Nashville country bar
You rolled up, in your fancy foreign car
You made quite a scene, you’re important I bet
Got drunk and yelled that I suck, the whole time thru my set

Chorus

You came down, to my sold out Ryman show
Wanted backstage passes, I politely told you no
You huffed and puffed and cursed me as you left
Told the whole world that I sucked, on the internets

Bridge
Apparently writin’ songs is easy
Come up with something original to say
Find some fancy words and notes and chords
Arrange them in a mel-odic way
Throw it all together
Play it on guitar
Everybody’ll tell you how great you are

But not you….so

Chorus.

Roy - great song, great story. I love your voice. And talking while playing a steady rhythm is harder than singing and playing -- for me, anyway.

Thank you kind sir! It's my one and only talk/sing type song. The line "my singing is atrocious and my playing's even worse" is pretty much a quote of what I was told! It happened here but was quite a long time ago, and there certainly were more positives than negatives at the time but when you're new, something like that can really destroy your confidence. As it all turned out, things were patched up and we all moved on and I got kind of a creative funny song about it. The story of the song was actually was inspired by Taylor Swift's career at the time. Through each verse, the singer's career keeps going up and up even though the "critic" says the singer sucks. At that time, the internet boards were full of amateurs and semi-pros talking about how crappy her music was and yet somehow she got more and MORE popular. IRONICALLY, in the last few days I've been reading about how "horrible" her new song is. I guess things don't really change do they?? Thanks for the listen and the kind words.

Come on man, that's neither goofy nor stoopid! I give it clever and fun. Some great blues licks and lyrics in there. Having written songs, I think it is a actually a great creative exercise to write something a little less serious yet still do a good job on it. Well done! Dang bro, I'ma hungry for donuts now!

(sorry about the poor video on my older stuff)

Another great tune. It would be good to maybe post the lyrics in the OP some were lightning fast and I missed a few. Super playing and singing. I think that fretboard was smoking a one point!

I dont have many goofy songs. Well... intentionally that is

Here is a cover of She's No Lady She's My Wife:
Great cover! I've always loved your smooth easy vocals and playing. This is right in your wheel house. Who are you playing with? You boys should play out (if you don't already).

That would have been very rude. Some people are cold hearted.

I thought it was quite the fun song and you did it just fine.

Too keep this fun thread afloat... here's a little quick one (:30) celebrating January 21, our only rodent-centric holiday.

It's Squirrel Appreciation Day
Gonna step outside and send some love their way
Hey hey
It's Squirrel Appreciation Day

Dontcha dig it when they leap from limb to limb
Little Georges of the Jungle
Up on Mother Nature's jungle gym

It's gonna be an overbite sensation
It's Squirrel Appreciation Day
