"On Eagles Wings" is a really touching song that suits a funeral well.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. It's been a bad day for losing people today...

One song that I always felt would be very appropriate and touching is "The Circle Game." It is by Joni Mitchell but there is something about Tom Rush's version that really moves me.

"Since I've Laid My Burden Down," a John Hirt song to the tune of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Better lyrics for a funeral..

"No more sickness, no more sorrow since I've laid my burden down...."

My wife has sung "Down In The River To Pray" at several funerals, including my father's --before A. Krauss' version.

Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill is a very touching song. Very sorry for your loss as well.

I've sung I'll Fly Away with folks at a funeral for a lovely musician who was a believer. The entire audience joined in with much tearful joy.

I recently played and sang at a Funeral. I played "I Will Rise" (Chris Tomlin). It is very powerful if you desire a spritual message type song.

sorry for your loss.

someone already mentioned it, but "I shall be released" I think also would be a good choice.
it could have extra meaning if your friend was in any kind of pain.
